Revolution Live Speaker: Chipp Walters

by Jo Hernandez

We're thrilled to have bagged this illustrious member of the Revolution community to speak at Revolution Live.

Chipp has been using Revolution for many years now, and is of course known in the community as the originator of the SQLite, Browser and Font plugins now incorporated in Revolution.

About the speaker:

Chipp Walters Chipp co-founded Altuit in early 2001. In his role as CEO, Chipp is responsible for the company's vision and direction. A successful serial entrepreneur, Chipp has previously demonstrated his talent for combining graphic design with software products and services by building several highly successful companies. His resume includes executive-level founding roles at ThePort, Inc. (a software firm in Atlanta), Human Code (a multi-national company developing custom interactive experiences for e-learning, digital business, and entertainment), and Design Edge (an award-winning industrial design firm). Chipp also is an avid Runtime Revolution user and frequent contributor to the 'free plugins' section of Altuit's website.

He and his wife Christi, daughter Mercedes, and their 6 horses, 10 cows, 3 dogs, cat and a handful of goldfish, live in Austin, Texas.

About the sessions:

Here's what Chipp and his co-presenters have to say about the exciting sessions they will be bringing you:

1) Brace Yourself for the 7 Super Secrets of Rev CGI (in conjunction with Andre Garzia).

Put a star right now next to this one!

We guarantee this session will change the way you think of Rev from now on. Once you see how great Rev GGI's work on web servers, and how simple they are to create, you'll want to start using them on all sorts of websites. And with the included world premiere latest versions of RevOnRockets and Rockets Editor, we expect you'll begin writing your own CGI's the very same day!

Why bother with MySQL, when all you need is a store locator database, or a website catalog? In fact, there are numerous easy to setup, high performance Rev CGI's which enable you to quickly and easily add dynamic website capabilities without having to learn SQL or php, or configure database server technologies. While a small portion of this talk will focus on setting up Rev CGI's on servers, most of the session focuses on how to create Rev CGI's and will go over workflow and architecture techniques. Plenty of examples will be given out, along with the latest free release of RevOnRockets and the first-time free release of the new "Rev CGI Missing Link" workflow enhancement tool, Rockets Editor.

2) Auto Updating Architecture

The Dirty Little Gotchas of Auto-Updating Apps and their Sneaky-Trick Fixes.

This jam-packed "Coyote" session promises to leave you scratching your noggin' saying, "I never knew THAT!" Not only will we discuss from simple to complex auto-updating architectures, but we'll also talk about how to create plugins you can update as well. All session attendees will get a free copy of Altuit's version control software, MagicCarpet ($35 value!)* and another special updater tool which will have them creating updatable standalone apps in no time at all. Plus, we'll be sure and let you in on the top 'Dirty Gotchas' of using auto-update and some ways to work around them. We call this our "Coyote" session because you'd probably rather chew off your arm than miss it!

*To receive your free copy of Magic Carpet, you must attend this session in person. Not offered free on Conference DVD.

3) Creating a Quicktime Movie Editor in Revolution (with Trevor DeVore)

Is it Possible to create a Timeline Video Editor from Scratch in under 40 hours?

Who needs i-Movie or Final Cut? We've successfully created a cross-platform, auto-updating, timeline video editor for a client in less 40 hours, and now we share the secrets with you! We'll go over creating the interface and graphic design for a timeline video editor. Next, learn about the deep powers and sometimes obscure techniques of Trevor Devore's Enhanced QT External. Then we share with you the "tricks of the trade" for assembling a Quicktime movie from bits and pieces of images, movies and audio tracks. Also, we'll provide a quick teaser on how to implement a display list and timeline into your project architectures. You'll learn to create your own RunRev movie controller and we'll also divulge some of the major QT "issues" you'll need work-arounds for. Attendees will get source code showing examples of all techniques demonstrated.

If you ever wanted to do anything serious with QuickTime in Rev, this first ever conference session shouldn't be missed!

Sign up for the conference now! Don't forget, if you get your ticket before the end of March, you'll get a free DVD of the whole conference when its all over, complete with training materials and valued at $249.
