In September, Runtime Revolution released the first beta
version of Revolution 2.9, which not only was a major revamp
of the Linux edition of the software, but also added enhanced
printing support, remote desktop compatibility, and enhanced
database routines. Today, a new beta was released which
continues to enhance performance and stability, and finishes
off even more new functions.
On overview of improvements introduced with the first
beta version of Revolution 2.9 was covered in a previous
newsletter article
here. This new beta version:
- Overhauls drag-drop functionality to be more reliable,
send messages in the proper order, and more fully comply
with standard user interface guidelines.
- Dramatically extends clipboard
operations to accommodate different kinds
of images better, transfer more kinds of data types,
and operate better with other software programs.
- Further improves the new printing syntax
to more thoroughly configure printing options, and
provides printer/page setup template dialogs for
platforms that don't have native support.
- Adds support for Active Scripting Host on Windows,
which enables you to access a vast library of Visual
Basic and JavaScript code, similar to the way
AppleScript is supported on Mac OS X.
- Introduces new operators: "begins with"
and "ends with" for string
comparisons, and the "wrap"
function which makes it much easier to iterate
through a series in loops.
- Smoothes out a variety of issues in
database support to make it more consistent
across platforms and more reliable.
- Continues to extend and improve the
documentation, both in the PDF users guide
and the online dictionary.
Additionally, there are more than a hundred fixes for
various issues identified in previous versions.
This beta release marks a major milestone in the
delivery of Revolution 2.9
