put URL "the Address" and get a directory?

Is it possible  to get a *directory* of a web site, rather than the
default "index.html" file?

I have a small test stack, to onto my web site... I know I can go "ftp"
(with giving my identity & password)

But if "theAddress" is a "http" one, it seems that I cannot get the
directory, only files... where am i wrong?
